Introducing the book which uncovers the mystery behind the BCS Controversy:  "The Grass Ain't Blue in Georgia - The Story Behind The BCS Controversy," by authors Ben Johnson, Mark Hales and Dr. Lynn Lashbrook.

"In an informal poll during a bowl game last year, some players were asked the same question and had many of the same responses. Yes, they want a playoff. No, they don't want to play any more extra games than they absolutely have to."

Many people around the country often wonder how the BCS continues to exist with all the controversy surrounding the mythical determination of a national champion in college football.

Equally distressing, many fans are completely unaware of the historical sequence of events that precipitated this mess in the first place.

While watching Texas coach Mac Brown gleefully accept the last BCS bid to replace California in the Rose Bowl in 2004, I mentioned to my wife that someone should really write a book on the topic uncovering the mystery of this puzzle of confusion that seems to compound with each passing year of the BCS' existence.

My wife suggested that I write it as I have been involved in high school, college and professional athletics the majority of my life.  What I uncovered is quite amazing.

Through out the television era of college football, which began with the NCAA television resolution in 1952, we have simply traded one coercive, strong-armed, monopolistic power struggle for another in the race to control the revenue that has grown exponentially with each passing decade.

As I began this project completely uneducated in regards to the historical evolution of college football surrounding this medium, it is now not only quite clear how this controversy developed in the first place, but is also equally clear why it continues to take place amid all the outcries for a bracketed playoff system.

In 1952, the NCAA television resolution catapulted the NCAA into the bureaucratic giant that they have become today. This fight for television revenue and the power for those who control it has morphed the game into the BCS enigma we are currently witnessing.

Ultimately, greed, power, and prestige would win over as it would take nearly 25 years for a group of power schools, known as the College Football Association (CFA-1976) to challenge the NCAA and its authority to govern and control television in college football.

Finally, this battle is still occurring today as many elements of the BCS model reek with antitrust violations, group coercion and monopolistic barriers. We have simply traded one monopolistic cartel for another throughout the history of college football as the balance of power has shifted back and forth from the NCAA, CFA, BCS and the networks.

This collective group, to include the NCAA, conference commissioners and individual athletic directors, as well as the networks, are motivated largely by the emotions of fear and jealousy, as they relate to money and power, rather than logic, reason, ethics and fair play.

Join authors Ben Johnson, Mark Hales and Dr. Lynn Lashbrook as they tie together the benchmark events occurring over a 50 year history in college football in an effort to "Understand The Controversy Behind The BCS.”
